Abney Park Cemetery, Stoke Newington

The Cemetery Chapel - Grade II listed, designed by William Hosking, built by John Jay and opened in May 1840 in Europes first wholly non denominational cemetery at Abney Park in Stoke Newington.

Isaac Watts (1674 to 1748) is actually buried in the non conformist Bunhill Fields but his statue presides over Abney Park Cemetery which was partly built on land belonging to Abney House, the home of Sir Thomas Abney where Watts lived for many years keeping Sir Thomas' widow company.

Tonight the Lion sleeps on the grave of Frank Bostock (1866-1912) famous menagerie owner.

Autumn in the cemetery.
